“Samsung Galaxy A36 Surfaces on Geekbench with an Unexpected Android Version”

The Samsung Galaxy A36, spotted on Geekbench with Android 15, may launch with Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and six years of software updates.

Samsung is currently developing the Galaxy A36, the successor to the Galaxy A35, which launched earlier this year in March. A prototype of the A36 has recently appeared on Geekbench, revealing that Samsung is testing the device with Android 15, a version only recently released for Google’s Pixel devices. Samsung is expected to roll out Android 15 for its phones starting in 2024, with the Galaxy S25 series in January, suggesting the Galaxy A36 may launch after that with Android 15 pre-installed.

This move signals that the A36 could follow in the footsteps of the recently announced Galaxy A16 5G, which is set to receive six major Android updates. If the A36 ships with Android 15, it could potentially receive updates up to Android 21, providing extended software support.

The Galaxy A36 is expected to feature either the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 or Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset, depending on the GPU variant. The prototype spotted today had 6GB of RAM, though more configurations may be available at launch. Interestingly, the A36 will switch from Samsung’s Exynos 1380 SoC, which powered the A35, to a Snapdragon chip for the first time in this series.
